Newsletter for February 2010
|
On
Saturday 27 February 2010 we paid tribute to all the loyal
volunteers/partners and friends that have assisted Woodside SCC over
the years. At this afternoon specially planned to say “Thank you” to all partners we
also took the opportunity to say thank you and farewell to Gerald
Weinberg a long standing board member of Woodside SCC (22 years) for
the important role he played on the Management Board..Dave
Steward vice-chairperson of Woodside SCC thanked all the partners on
behalf of the Management Board and staff of Woodside SCC. He
urged them to stay loyal and assured them that their sacrifices are
valued in whichever capacity it is given. All the partners were
presented with a gift for the outstanding services they render to
Woodside Special Care Centre. “We are very grateful to all our
partners without whom Woodside SCC would not be able to function at its
maximum.”
Picnic
time!
A group of 12 residents
were spoilt to a one-on-one picnic by Mrs Robson and a group of pupils
from Kirstenhof
Primary School on
the 06th February 2010.
Love
is in the air…
The staff and residents
celebrated Valentines Day here at Woodside SCC. Our residents received
sweet treats and our staff wore red and white/ black to work. They
received roses and mini heart chocolates as a thank you from Woodside
SCC.
Therapy
takes a new turn…
Our bigger, physically
able residents have started receiving body massages in our new massage
chair in the physiotherapy department. Not all residents enjoy the
tactile input of the massage chair but those who do are completely
relaxed and the purpose is achieved.
And
yet another turn!
Our medizone spa machines have arrived and dry
treatments have started. The bath treatments will start as soon as we
have plug points installed closer to the bathrooms. Lovely results have
been achieved thus far in terms of relaxation and mobility of joints/
improvement of joint ranges.
Staff development
I
too can do it!
Our staff has been
attending the Hambisela training; a 7 module course which covers the
content with regards to Cerebral Palsy children. An exam is
written after each module and on completion trainees will receive a
certificate certified by the Cerebral Palsy Association of the Western Cape.
Trainees who have not passed will need to study on their own and
re-write the test AGAIN. We will also have another group of staff
who will commence training during March and April.
With
thanks…
